Das Wabi-Sabi in Super 8

Super-8-Film: schwarzweiß, bioentwickelt, dem Zufall und dem Alltäglichen die Schönheit entlockt.

Dieser schmale, analoge, für-Amateure-erfundene, von Künstler*innen-benutzte Schatz ist ein extrem sexy Material: Es ist warmfarbig, hat unschlagbare Grauwerte und Schwärzen, die man digital nie so hinbekommt, ist partiell geheimnisvoll unscharf, naturkörnig, nicht 100%ig vorhersehbar – selbst Entwickelunfälle können sich als ästhetisches Überraschungswunder entpuppen!
Entwickellabors gibt es so gut wie keine mehr, es gibt aber Alternativen: selbermachen!

Woraus bestehen Filmschichten, was macht ein Photon und ein Phenol, wie wirke ich als Entwicklerin ein – der Zauber des haptischen Analogen krallt uns und trudelt uns ins Universum der ökologisch unbedenklichen Biosuppen-Entwicklung!

Wir werden mit frischem Material arbeiten: TriX und Wittnerpan 100, zwei Schwarzweißfilme, die wir zum Negativ entwickeln werden.

Entwickelt wird in biologischen Suppen – das ist Kaffee / Tee / Planzenreste-Sud … plus Vitamin C plus Waschsoda.

Super 8 film: black and white, bio-developed, coaxing beauty out of chance and the everyday.

This narrow, analogue, invented-for-amateurs, used-by-artists treasure is an extremely sexy material: it is warm-coloured, has unbeatable grey tones and blacks that can never be achieved digitally, is mysteriously blurred in places, naturally grainy, not 100% predictable - even development accidents can turn out to be aesthetic surprises!
There are virtually no more developing labs, but there are alternatives: do it yourself!

What are film layers made of, what does a photon and a phenol do, how do I act as a developer - the magic of the haptic analogue grabs us and trundles us into the universe of ecologically harmless organic soup development!

We will be working with fresh material: TriX and Wittnerpan 100, two black and white films that we will develop into negatives.

We will develop in organic soups - that's coffee / tea / plant residue brew ... plus vitamin C plus washing soda.
